$9K does seem a bit much, but it *is* for charity, after all.
I myself own a Bill Gates-signed Microsoft Mouse 2.0 (the old "Dove Bar" 2-button mouse circa 1993) that I won in a raffle when I worked at Microsoft. The mouse has lived in a Ziploc bag in a dark closet ever since then... hopefully it'll be worth serious money someday. (Met Bill three times, too. He's more normal than you'd think.)
