4 in 5 iPhone users say they'll buy another; Android? Only 1 in 5

Interesting bit of information unearthed by the Yankee Group, a national research firm.

It finds that 77 percent of iPhone users will buy another iPhone, compared to only 20 percent of Android customers.

The Yankee Group says iPhone users net AT&T $50 more per customer each year than other smartphone subscribers and that the iPhone will account for $1.8 billion in sales for AT&T and $9 billion in revenue for the company over the next five years.

That's $750 million more each year than AT&T would make if it had a different flagship smartphone.

Sounds bogus. I haven't met another Droid owner yet who was unhappy with the product. And I certainly haven't met an iPhone user who was happy with AT&T's coverage.

More Apple Fanboy stuff Langston. My scientific study of android users says that 100% of Android users, Dr. Horrible and I would buy another Android. Do you really know anything about technology? You know Blackberry is the number 1 Smart Phone by a long shot.

I have an iPhone and I'm happy with the coverage. I also have a coworker who has a droid and intends to switch to something else. Just because you disagree with something doesn't make it untrue.

Langston-

Is it true that if you had to list the two most important things in your life, it would be Apple and the Independence football team?

Blackberry is only the top smartphone because it has business marketshare. Most of the folks I work with would prefer an iPhone, but my company's IT department will ONLY support Blackberry. I love my iPhone, and when Apple opens it up to another provider, probably half ATT customers will jump ship and move. That should relieve the workload of the network, and make things run more smoothly all around.

So exactly what makes an Iphone better than an android?

Timothy Whitson said...

The one thing that makes an iPhone better, is that the operating system only runs on one hardware platform. Android is an interesting concept, but developers of apps have to account for multiple manufacturers using a variety of hardware. That means an app which will run fine on one combination of processor speed/RAM may not work on a different phone with less of each. I'm not opposed to the Android operating system per se, but if I chose to switch I'd make darn sure I had the most recent phone, with ample hardware.

Well, I have an iPhone, and I intend to switch to an Android phone as soon as my contract runs out. So that cancels out what the other person said. I have yet to meet a dissatisfied Android user and there are literally hundreds at work that recently got Incredibles or Droids. Probably this survey used the same language that means something different for iphone and android users (would you consider switching to something other than your current phone?) For Android users, there are many other phones out there. For iPhone users, there's only one.

Well we are 5 ppl at my work who all owns android phones and we all love them, becouse they give us freedom to tether and what not. So i call BS on this data.

iphone fan boyism ?....ppfftt patooey

We don't need no stinkin' iphone.... we got the android, and the android has us...it's a symbiotic relationship mere mortals with their iphones will never fathom.

It seems Droid owners must be upset about something. All they do is spend their time bashing the iPhone in online forums. That's great if you love your phone. I love my iPhone. Can we move on?

"77 percent of iPhone users will buy another iPhone"

They'll have to since their current phones keep dropping calls!

BWAA HAA HAA HAA!!

Most of you Android "lovers" sound exactly like I would expect - you are clueless. Less than one half of one percent of ALL iphone users have had a dropped-call problem... read that over again...

Everyone I know that has an Android or other smart phone (quite a few), put down the iphone because: 1) they don't understand it; 2) their work doesn't support it because they know nothing about apple products; or 3) they are upset because they rushed into a contract with another service provider before they did all the research.

For these reasons, I take no offense, only pitty, that you have your horrible Android and need to get your frustration out on other people who've made a smart decision when it comes to cell phone service. The truth lies in the overall success and sales of apple products, mostly importantly for this blog, the apple iphone.

I am an iPhone user, and for Dr. Horrible's information he's NOW met a user who's happy with AT&T. Better than the coverage I have on my Nextel for work. And faster... when I have to browse (like maps), I pull out my personal phone because it's about 2x as fast.
Further, I have used Android, and while it's better than most other touch-screen phones out there that are abyssmal, Android is really nothing special. 1 or 2 neat features does not make a well-rounded phone. iPhone, for all the haters, is still the best single option.

"The Yankee Group says iPhone users net AT&T $50 more per customer each year than other smartphone subscribers"

So basically AT&T is ripping Iphone Users off for $50 a year. Change that to Exxon and you would have a congressional investigation. In this case Langston celebrates it.

The problem with Android on AT&T is that AT&T cripples its functionality compared to other carriers. I'm on a family plan with AT&T so I can't change carriers without going on my own or involving the rest of the plan so I chose the best Android phone AT&T had a couple months ago called the Backflip from Motorola. The phone came out midMarch and to this date cannot be rooted so it is still running Android 1.5. Motorola is promising an upgrade to 2.1 this quarter, but we'll see. Newer Android phones on AT&T are just as hard to root. They just came out so we will see. There are a few applications I've really wanted to get recently but the require Android 1.6 or higher.

Am I happy with Android? Yes. Would I buy another gimped android device on AT&T? No.
Would I ever use an iPhone? No.

readthe correction. 20 percent of ALL smart phone users will buy an androids phone.
