The two satellite giants are now far and away the leaders in high definition programming. But how do they compare to each other?
There's a neat little spreadsheet online that is getting many folks talking. It's not completely up to date, but it is a great starting point.
What do you guys think?

Langston, thanks for staying on this dish/cable stuff. I'm on the fence and trying to decide. This is very helpful.
That's a great reference, LW. also good article about mattresses, too. I'll be putting your blog on favorites from now on.
I don't have cable or satellite and am thinking of taking the splash. This chart helps but how much are each service and who has the best customer service and picture. I get Over the air HD now and it looks great.
thank you ! I still havent picked a provider yet.
When one could pirate them, I had them both and the directv picture was better. But directv has the NFL pkg and that should be the deciding factor
You should indicate the Pay channels and the higher tier HD channels on that spreadsheet. It looks to me like Dish offers more HD channels in their HD package that aren't extra cost like HBO, etc.
Would love to see a Time Warner Cable colummn added to that spreadsheet.
DirecTV, Tivo, & Sunday NFL Ticket. It's the biggest no-brainer in the history of Earth.
I already have dish and it works great. I will admit that directv has some high def channels that I would like on the dish network. Cable has absolutely no comparison, specifically when you compare high def content. Cable is very mediocre compared to any of the satellite providers for high def.
